Robert Downey Jr. Says "Yes" to Sherlock Holmes 3
According to EW, Robert Downey Jr. has confirmed that he still has plans on making Sherlock Holmes 3. This is good news for fans of the Guy Ritchie Holmes franchise. Despite the statement from Downey Jr., production has yet to begin on the third installment.
Downey Jr. began the Holmes franchise with Ritchie and Jude Law (Watson) in 2009. The first movie was considered a success and made $524 million. As a result, a second film was released in 2011, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. The sequel made $545.4 million.
The last time we saw Downey Jr. as Holmes he had battled his arch enemy, Moriarity, and appeared to have died. However, at the end of the film, it is revealed that he is alive, when hiding in Watson's office, he reads Watson's memoirs on the typewriter and adds a question mark after the words, "The End".
Overall, the Ritchie Holmes movies have a very modern, action feel to them and give Holmes new appeal to younger generations. I have seen the films and enjoyed them for what they are but, I prefer either the traditional Holmes or even the BBC reimagined Holmes, played by Benedict Cumberbatch.
What do you think?
Despite Downey Jr.'s comments, do you think we will see the third installment? And more importantly, are you excited about the possible new film or not?
