Review of Stogies in Historic St. Augustine
One of my favorite things to do while I'm traveling is to check in at some of the local smoke shops. A few weeks ago I was in St. Augustine Florida and stopped by Stogies on St. George Street in the historic walking district.
The store is small but does offer a decent selection of premium label cigars in their walk-in humidor. Some of the brands that they carry are:
Alec Bradley, Arturo Fuente, CAO, Cohiba, Drew Estates, Dunhill, Foundry, Gurka, Macanudo, Oliva, Padron, Partagas, Perdomo, and Punch, Rocky.
They also carry a decent amount of cigar accessories including, lighters, cases, small humidors and ash trays. For the size of the store, they carry a decent variety of smoking supplies.
There is a small pipe section with some decent bagged tobaccos. They are all house blends and come pre-bagged. Each bag contains around 1 1/2 ounces of tobacco. I have tried 6 different aromatic blends and found them all to be good quality blends. They are definitely not drug-store blends, but taste and feel premium. Each bag is around $4.50.
The store also have a small selection of pipes. There are no "big name" pipes but rather a decent selection of lower end brands. Prices for the pipes average around $50. A pipe collector would not find much here, but for those of us who just want to pick up a good every-day, smoker, these pipes will do.
The staff is very friendly and laid back. Even though the shop is small there's never any pressure from the staff and they are knowledgeable about the cigars they carry and can offer some good recommendations.
If you are in St. Augustine and are looking for a good shop to pick up a few premium cigars or want to try some quality pipe tobacco, you should definitely give Stogies a try. There are a few benches in front of the store (behind the wooden Indian) where you can sit and enjoy your smoke while doing some quality people watching.
